WELCOME TO ConnectVETS.org
ConnectVETS.org is a Chicago based organization that supports the men and women who have served our country, by connecting Veterans with private sector employment opportunities. We are neither affiliated with nor biased toward any political organization or strategy.
Our servicemen and women have sacrificed and the ConnectVETS programs are a way to make a difference in OUR community and show OUR support by helping them connect and successfully transition from one culture (military) to another (private sector workforce).
The facts are staggering:
The Washington Post reported on Saturday, March 13, 2010 that "The unemployment rate last year for young veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars hit 21.1 percent, the Labor Department said Friday, reflecting a tough obstacle that combat veterans face as they make the transition home from war. The number was well above the 16.6 percent jobless rate for non-veterans of the same ages, 18 to 24. It was significantly higher than the 2008 unemployment rate among veterans in that age group: 14.1 percent."1
- More than 80% of veterans feel unprepared for the private sector when they leave the military.3
- 91% of those in the military's job transition program with <10 years of service do not have a job lined up when discharged.2
- More than 60% of U.S. employers say they have favorable impressions of military service but don't understand the qualifications this service instills.3
